$p1$: Better Prompt Optimization with Fewer Prompts

We study what makes a task amenable to prompt optimization. We show that the reward variance across different system prompts can be decomposed into two components: variance among responses, which captures generation stochasticity, and variance among system prompts, which captures differences in system prompt quality. Prompt optimization succeeds when variance among system prompts is sufficiently large, but fails when variance among responses dominates the variance of the system prompts. Surprisingly, we further show that scaling to more user prompts can hurt optimization by reducing variance among system prompts, especially on heterogeneous datasets where different user prompts favor different system prompts. A Survey of LLM Prompt Datasets: Taxonomy, Linguistic Patterns, and Practical Uses

We use seven datasets for detailed analysis and identify lexical, syntactic, and semantic patterns that distinguish prompts from general text. We evaluate these features in prompt filtering, source domain routing, and elicited response quality analysis. A 63 dimensional linguistic feature set that can be extracted on a CPU achieves over 91% of the F1 of GPU sentence embeddings and reduces latency per request by nearly half. In cross dataset routing, sentence embeddings reach 0.74 Macro-F1 and a structural feature subset reaches 0.61, compared with the chance level of 0.20. GSM8K-V: Can Vision Language Models Solve Grade School Math Word Problems in Visual Contexts

From Accuracy to Robustness: A Study of Rule- and Model-based Verifiers in Mathematical Reasoning

The Score Granularity Gap in Black-Box LLM Classification: A Comparative Study of Confidence Constructions

The Cold-Start Safety Gap in LLM Agents

We discover they are not: agents are most vulnerable at the very start of a session and become substantially safer after a few regular agentic tasks -- a phenomenon we term the cold-start safety gap. To study this systematically, we introduce Safety Over Depth for Agents (SODA), a benchmark that controls how many regular agentic tasks the agent completes before encountering a safety threat, supporting up to 20 preceding tasks. Evaluating 7 models from 4 families, safety improves by 9--52% as the number of preceding regular agentic tasks increases from zero to twenty. Representation analysis confirms that model hidden states gradually shift toward a safety-aligned region as more preceding tasks are present. Many Circuits, One Mechanism: Input Variation and Evaluation Granularity in Circuit Discovery

NestedKV: Nested Memory Routing for Long-Context KV Cache Compression

MedFabric: Gold Evidence Hides the Difficulty of Word-Level Medical Fabrication Detection

Grounded Token Initialization for New Vocabulary in LMs for Generative Recommendation

We present a systematic analysis of this strategy: through spectral and geometric diagnostics, we show that mean initialization collapses all new tokens into a degenerate subspace, erasing inter-token distinctions that subsequent fine-tuning struggles to fully recover. Translation Asymmetry in LLMs as a Data Augmentation Factor: A Case Study for 6 Romansh Language Varieties

arXiv:2603.25489v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Recent strategies for low-resource machine translation rely on LLMs to generate synthetic data based on text in higher-resource languages. We revisit this idea for Romansh, a language with 6 distinct varieties. LLMs tend to confuse these varieties when translating into Romansh, but they are quite good at translating out of Romansh into a high-resource language such as German. Due to this asymmetry, the direction of data augmentation is a crucial choice. We find that contrary to recent strategies, creating synthetic translations into the higher-resource language is the superior approach, and only this approach allows us to surpass a Gemini 3 Pro baseline on German-Romansh translation (+23 BLEU over Gemini in the lowest-resource variety). A human evaluation confirms that our experiments yield the first model that generates fluent translations in the individual Romansh varieties.

Many Dialects, Many Languages, One Cultural Lens: Evaluating Multilingual VLMs for Bengali Culture Understanding Across Historically Linked Languages and Regional Dialects

How LLMs Distort Our Written Language

In this work, we demonstrate that LLMs not only alter the voice and tone of human writing but also consistently alter the intended meaning. First, we conduct a human user study to understand how people actually interact with LLMs when using them for writing. Our findings reveal that extensive LLM use led to a nearly 70% increase in essays that remained neutral in answering the topic question. Significantly more heavy LLM users reported that the writing was less creative and not in their voice. SPAR-K: Scheduled Periodic Alternating Early Exit for Spoken Language Models

Modular Expert Merging for Biomedical Retrieval

Beyond Factual QA: Mentorship-Oriented Question Answering over Long-Form Multilingual Content

MAPLE: Metadata Conditioned LLM Pretraining for Locale-Aware Question Answering

What the "Spotless" Mind Remembers: How Knowledge Entanglement Shapes What Leaks After Unlearning in LLMs

CorporateBench: Large-Scale Q&A Benchmarking with Temporal Knowledge Bases

Beyond Parallel Blindness: Information Floors and Model Gaps in Block Drafting

Terrain signatures in Welsh settlement names

We analysed 3,757 Welsh settlements using a frozen, source-audited 24-element lexical framework, preregistered outcome-specific models and geographically structured validation.
