There’s a lot of talk in here lately about correct charting and what that means. We’re taught this is nursing school but when you work in a hospital sometimes you’re taught incorrect charting habits. For example, in my ICU they encourage that you chart your assessments at 0800, 1200, and 1600 even when if you have two patients. I tend to chart in real time (0800 assessment for pt 1, 0845 assessment for pt 2) because I want my charting to tell a story if I were to be disposed (I saw pt 1 first and pt 2 second, clearly due my charting instead of charting both at 0800). I’m looking for good rules that help us discern bad habits being taught at hospitals vs what actually serves us in court. I’m not looking for “chart as much as possible” here because sometimes my shifts can be insane. Insights from nurses who have been deposed or from legal nurse consultants are ideal. Thank you! Without getting into details, I am currently being investigated at my workplace for an incident which absolutely did not happen in the manner alleged. I know that there is documentation in the chart that reflects my version of events because I charted it . Other coworkers that night also documented what they saw. Hi. I’m a new grad and I recently got trained on inserting IVs. I find myself kind of panicking when starting on people with barely visible and barely palpable veins. Like genuinely no matter how much I readjust the tourniquet there’s no fkn way I’m feeling anything still. I get really discouraged because I eventually want to move to a unit that regularly starts IVs, I work with generally stable pts, so it’s not often we get to start IVs. Why It Matters: The rule would have let the Education Secretary disqualify employers found to engage in activities with a "substantial illegal purpose". One of the big focuses of the lawsuits was that the language was based on the administration's policy priorities about immigration, gender-affirming care, and DEl programs rather than settled criminal law. Teachers, nurses, and nonprofit workers faced losing credit toward forgiveness if their employer was cut from the program. This would include major non-profit University Medical Centers, and end contracts many Nurses entered into to reach PSLF after 10 years of payments while working for a qualifying facility. How day they target Nurses who have worked for years to achieve this changed employers to achieve this. Earned this benefit. Yet wealthy people qualified for PPP loans they didn’t have to pay back? three years of nights and i still have not figured this out. like i meal prep on my day off with the best intentions. little containers. protein. whatever. and then 3am hits and i am standing in the break room eating a string cheese and half a granola bar that was in my pocket since tuesday. the cafeteria is closed obviously. vending machine options are depressing. i brought a real meal tonight and somehow left it in my car. everyone talks about sleep hygiene and circadian rhythm stuff but nobody talks about how genuinely hard it is to eat like a normal human being when your body has no idea what time zone it lives in. hunger cues are completely broken. i am never hungry at the right time and then suddenly starving at 5am when i am also trying to finish charting and give report. i have tried the big meal before shift thing. i have tried smaller snacks throughout. i have tried just not thinking about it and that was the worst one. night shift nurses specifically. what actually works for

First Gen applicant, neither parent completed a 4 year degree. Accepted to my #2 choice. Applied to 9 programs at that time. 4 interview invites (1 lead to an acceptance), 2 rejections, 1 interview waitlist, 2 no response. I was subbing at a new school today. Despite not having a uniform and having a very loose dress code, nearly every single female student was wearing the same thing. Light-to-medium wash baggy/wide leg jeans, plain black tee shirt, and neutral colored sneakers. It was a little bewildering seeing the hundreds of students exiting and having near-complete color coordination. (It’s a choir teacher’s dream, ngl) I don’t recall this level of conformity back when I was in school. Elementary doesn’t have this same colorless pattern to fashion; kids are still just as vibrant and unique in their choices as ever. I haven’t been paying attention to Gen Alpha fashion whatsoever, so seeing the outfit uniformity replicated in each class was surprising. I saw zero skirts or dresses. No graphic tees. How do I care less and not let things affect me? Most things at my job don’t affect me, but lately I feel like they are. I am freshly back from maternity leave, but not a new mother. In the past month I’ve had a couple incidents where I just can’t get over them. Essentially I was gas lit by the doctor, I was catching all of the signs for my pt declining as soon as I got them, they would not order anything, tried to tell me the pt was previously like that when they were not, and he ended up dying overnight. I can’t even look at that doctor without feeling anger. My coworkers bring it up and I can’t even talk about the situation without feeling emotional. I then admitted a patient that was a huge safety risk, I brought it up to the higher ups, nobody did anything and an extremely traumatizing code white happened days later. The higher ups claimed they were unaware of the patients history, despite me bringing it up to their faces. I don’t know why I am feeling things so deeply lately and

Does anyone else just utterly hate this is the default admins expect from staff past elementary school? Like once they hit roughly 6th grade there's no question they know how to act inside of a school or classroom. There is no reason I should have to go through so many steps to wait for them to come to the conclusion when they should be able to just be told and expected to listen or be removed. I'm a 37 year old male in my second year of an ADN program. Last week during clinical I was able to be a part of a C-section. I was completely blown away by watching a baby being born and had such a strong emotional response to it that I wasn't expecting. I don't have any of my own children yet. I had no idea I was going to have that type of emotional response to it. It was such a beautiful experience and doing an assessment on a newborn, seeing their eyes lock with mine while they grasped my fingers made me realize how precious a new life is and how lucky I felt to be there that day to help care for them in the first few hours of life. Today I was paired up with a labor and delivery nurse who has been graduated from the same program I am in for about a year and half now. We had a G2P0 in labor. So for some context, I started teaching last semester in second grade in January and ended in May. I had only 12 students and it was a bit rough at the start but I ended up getting the hang of it. This year I stayed in second grade but now I have 28 students and I cannot manage their behavior at all. Admin has already talked to me about classroom management and being consistent but I have tried for the past 3-4 weeks and nothing has changed much. I have a lot of talkers and those who love standing up. I am Texas so it’s a new curriculum but the stress is what is getting me. I haven’t been eating well and have been dreading waking up each morning to go into work. I am already planning on leaving the profession and hopefully just survive the year. This is my second year teaching, and it’s also my second year at the school where I work. It’s a very small school/district—small enough that we don’t have a principal or dean of students. It’s a PreK–8th grade school, and we recently had an admin change. Our superintendent is supposed to be handling all of our disciplinary actions, and he has someone else who is supposed to help him with some of the paperwork. However, he’s hiding in his office all day and refusing to help discipline kids. He’s trying to have the person who is supposed to help with paperwork handle the disciplinary actions, even though legally she cannot do that. What does that mean? The middle schoolers I work with as a history teacher are receiving basically no discipline for their actions. What’s worse is that they’ve already run the English teacher off in the second week because there was no discipline, and admin is allowing parents to just come in and cuss the teachers out. We have no support whatsoever, and the
2nd grade teacher, some students are using the calm down corner to sit out most of the period. I ask them what's wrong, how they are feeling, and they give harrumph shrug shoulder answers. Short of dragging them to the carpet or their desk, which I would never do, I can't do anything. I don't feel like it's a big enough issue to be calling the dean of students. So tomorrow I am integrating this "consequence": after 10 minutes in the calm down corner you must be feeling so bad that we need to call your parents during recess/specials (depending on the time of day). So we had an incident in the ER, pt got super combative and security didn’t show up for about 30-45 minutes because they were already upstairs dealing with a separate issue. I understand they were busy, but is it normal for hospital security to only be able to handle one situation at a time? So long story short , im a resident substitute filling in for a 7th grade science and math position until they can find someone to fill it , they have offered it to 2 people and both turned it down . All of my classes are very illbehaved ( cursing, yelling , back talk , elopement ) Last week was safety week and during one of the drills that was a lock down drill I had a student laugh during the entire thing .... afterwards I leaned down next to him while sitting in my chair and quietly told him ( so as not to embarrass him.) I backed up and just moved on because 1 I didn't have access to alot of the online parent communication tools and 2 it didn't seem important enough to call home over ... So I am totally panicking - I have entered all 6 of my transcripts where I took academic courses and my prerequisite courses. I have not uploaded a transcript from a community college where I took my CMA certification course and my community college will not send out these records except by mail - and my deadline for schools is tomorrow. My entire application has been done for two weeks other than this holdup. I tried speaking with a representative from CASPA who didn't even know the difference between CEUs and Academic credits. She said a manager would call me tomorrow the day that my applications are due. What my real question is - is that this course resulted in certificates as in a CEU course, no credit hours, no grade - only Satisfactory or Non-satisfactory. From what I see online - barely any guidance on this issue - is that this is not an academic transcript and does not need to be sent to CASPA for the transcript entry portion of my application. My co workers and I always have this discussion when we are down custodians. Currently we are down one so some days I’m lucky if my trash is emptied. If you got paid 30min a day to clean your room. Would you do it if your district was down custodians? I absolutely would, it would ensure my room is clean to my standards and I get paid! I GOT A JOB! I'm moving from a charter to public school -- just got the official offer (via phone and email from HR) this afternoon. Seeking some advice on the best way to resign my current position. I know they'll be upset given the timing, but I want to minimize that as much as is in my power. Key points: My current job is in in-service -- students return after Labor Day. New job is in a district where students have already resumed school. New job has two orientation options coming up -- tomorrow and next Tuesday. I still need to complete fingerprints; HR says I could be in the classroom by 9/9 (written job offer has start date as 9/8). Should I... Call out of current job and go to new job orientation tomorrow? Go in to current job in person tomorrow to resign, turn in/pick up my things, and give notice? I’m only a month into my new ICU position and I’m struggling so much with my mental health. Ive been diagnosed GAD since I was 16 but have never dealt with depression. Since graduating college, nothing has brought me joy, my friends have all moved away, I’m doing long distance with my bf, and I’m living with my parents again. I have no social life but no energy to go out and do things on my days off. I’m doing everything “right” at work. I haven’t made any errors (I stare at the MAR for 5 minutes before giving a med bc I’m so scared to mess up). I ask a bunch of questions. Today, an ELA teacher gave her resignation because she says that she can't handle teaching anymore. I offered to help the ELA teacher anyway I can, but she says that she just can't take it anymore after 3 years teaching. She thought she could handle another year, but realized that teaching is damaging her mental state. She wants to go back to school to become a pharmacist. I got accepted to Pa school and I’m thrilled to go and learn all that cool stuff, but I’m concerned about salary right now. I realize that as a new grad Pa I’ll probably make around $130k which is good money but I’m hoping to earn more in my career. Obviously one solution is to go to med school and come out of there making 300-500k, but I really don’t want to go to 4 years med school, 4 years residency, and how ever many more years depending on the specialty. I want to work in healthcare and do all the cool things that a PA gets to do, but I want to earn money than PAs do. Does anyone else feel this way?
