So, this happened around February. I was appalled at the time, but had other things to do. It just went back into my mind and, giving it a bit of thought, I realised how utterly surreal the thing is. So basically, there's this Spanish teacher (I am from Spain, so it would be like an English teacher doing this in the US) admitted, in front of the whole teacher body, that he allows his students to "refine" their writings with ChatGPT. He basically allows them to have it open in class, and "ask it questions on style, grammar and structure". Later on, this same teacher admitted, in another meeting, that he uses a paid ChatGPT account to grade these essays. I am on my summer leave. I am a history teacher, and I was just going over how I am going to avoid students from cheating with AI, and I just connected the dots. This guy isn't running a class. I’ve decided to switch gears and pursue nursing. I’m planning to apply to ABSN programs this year for 2027 admission. Right now I still have about 4-5 prereqs left (A&P I, A&P II, Microbiology, and Lifespan Development), and I’m hoping to finish them by October since that’s when most ABSN applications are due for spring starts. For some background, I worked as a phlebotomist for about 6 months, volunteered at a free medical clinic for around 1.5 years, and I recently started working as a PCT. The problem is… the job is keeping me behind in my classes. I work four 10-hour shifts a week, and on the days I work I’m completely wiped. I come home, eat, shower, and basically fall asleep. I have almost no motivation or energy left to study, and I’m worried it’s going to affect my grades in these prereqs. My dilemma is that I feel like PCT experience could make me a stronger applicant. I am in my new hire orientation today and it's genuinely the most overstimulating environment I've ever been in. Just going in the door there was a drum line, adult cheerleaders, and music blasting from loudspeakers in several locations---including the main hallway where we have to sign in and the gym we had to sit in to wait for 20 minutes. No one needs The Black Eyed Peas that loud at 8am. Loudspeakers are a 10 on a scale of 10. Why are events so overstimulating at teacher events? Since college athletes were allowed to sign branding deals in 2021, the debate has continued over whether letting students make money off their names is a good thing.
Just a small rant. The other day I specifically timed my lunch so that I wouldn't take it as the same time as someone who I knew would try to talk to me the whole time. I finally sit down to eat and this random float just started talking to me about anything and everything. I had headphones in and was polite but clear that I wanted to watch something on my phone. Eventually I gave up and left to go to another break room. Then yesterday I finally sat down to eat after precepting all day (exhausting!). As soon as I sat down, our education specialist came into the break room looking for my new person to do some onboarding. Luckily for my new grad, she had gone down to the cafeteria. Unfortunately for me, I was in the break room and the education specialist just started talking to me about our training protocols and how to implement them, etc. I absolutely hate when people do this. I used to use Jam Board, and it was pretty good for groups of students to make a public question board that didn’t clutter my classroom and drop post-it confetti everywhere. I’ve looked into Figma ( way too complex for what I need) and the post-it app (can multiple people even collaborate on it?) and Miro (looking for a free option). Does anyone know of a simple, sticky note style option that will allow students to post questions to a communal board for free? it’s very scary how new grad students are applying to NP programs. i thought everybody was against this, but it seems to be a 50/50 opinion, which is baffling to me. nurses that aren’t interested in mental health trying to get into psych NP programs to “work outpatient and make their money,” nurses with no clinical experience thinking their clinical hours done during their BSN program is enough. i hate to discourage those people who are ambitious and want to move forward in their studies, but they obviously don’t care about patient care, which should be a nurse’s #1 priority. it’s frustrating and dangerous to see this happening, because people’s selfish financial desires are putting others who seek medical help at risk. I finally got my admin login today to check it out before deployment It is literally just locked pdfs and multiple choice quizzes from like 2012. No interactive elements, just "click next to continue" compliance garbage. Students don't learn real world skills by staring at a wall of text about index funds. Career changer with a B.A. in Communications (3.7 GPA) and no college science background. I’m applying to an online ABSN program that starts in February and need all seven prerequisites completed and transcripted by February 1 start. The reason I’m considering this pace is that the next start date is in the fall, which would delay everything by about seven months. today was my first day of cna and as soon as i got in the car after my shift all i honestly could do was cry, i’ve had my cna license for about a month now but i just recently got my first job in the healthcare industry and after 2 days of orientation and 3 days of shadowing people, in different areas,they decided to throw me on the floor with 15 patients with 3 showers and 2 feeders and every single patient being incontinent and 2 of them being sundowners and at first i was very optimistic and ready but trying to get all my showers done before dinner came i felt so lost and on my first shower i forgot the briefs so since the patient was already in the shower i jus peaked my head out to ask another cna tht was sitting on her phone to which she replied “he don’t need them, u should’ve got them before u went in” after tht i knew i was on my own so i only asked for help if it was ultimately needed, like a hoyer lift which i still would have to sit and wait for them to be done talking. all

I’ve been a nurse for a long time in the ICU.. a more controlled setting. I had a patient recently code on me that was up and talking a few moments before and very young. It has stuck with me and now is causing me some PTSD. After a decade of nursing my emotions are catching up I guess. Today, I had someone code on the sidewalk and upon finding him I thought I felt a pulse but also no one else was around. Thankfully it was close to the ED so I yelled down for some help and narcan. By that point we got to him, EMS didn’t feel a pulse and I was hopping on to do compressions. We started compressions but I keep replaying how I can do better and blaming myself in these situations. Should I have felt for a pulse longer (maybe I felt my own and not his), but then I needed more help either way because no one else was around? Any advice? I seriously need to vent because I am so overwhelmed. I’m a first-year 1st grade teacher, and today was only my second day of school. Before school started, our team was given a pacing guide that said we had the first two weeks to focus on teaching classroom routines and procedures while also completing beginning-of-year assessments. The assessments are important because our curriculum has differentiated centers, and we’re supposed to group students based on their assessment results. I’ve noticed something over the years, and I’m curious if it’s just my experience or if it’s common everywhere. Why does it seem like every school has that one person who’s considered the “snake” on campus? The person who acts friendly to your face but is constantly running to administration about coworkers, spreading gossip, or finding ways to make someone else’s day harder. They seem to know everyone’s business, talk negatively about almost everyone, and somehow always stay in the administration’s good graces. I had mine yesterday. I'm in wound care, pretty much nothing phases me anymore. Been treating a patient with aggressive cancer on the scalp for 2 years how, it's been surgically excised and then the skull covered with multiple skin grafts which have not taken, so we are managing an exposed skull piece the size of the flat of my hand, an uphill battle if there ever was one. Patient came yesterday and I took off the dressings and despite everything to prevent it, the bone has just degraded and has become brown, flakey and crispy, like crisp bread. Started debriding and a 2 * 2cm piece of skull just... Came off. There were their brains, or more technically dura, just sitting there pulsating in time with his breathing. Oh fuck. In Texas, I received my statement of eligibility 3 months ago. Finally got a position in the last moment, but I can see myself crunching a lot because the training already started. At first, I was panicking because they switched me from Algebra 1 to Calculus, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus. It's unexpected, but then I realize that I haven't talked to my mentors or anything. So at the very list, I am not in trouble. Although I stopped panicking, I can still see myself crunching. The worst part is it ain’t the students. It’s Tuesday night of the first week of school. I had my pre-planning week last week where I had to move classrooms, attend meetings (which I skipped and missed nothing) and plan for the semester. I’m teaching a topic I am not specialized in while the teacher who is specialized in it gets my specialty. I’ve got three mandatory meetings this week during my planning period and no time left to prep. The singular saving grace is I finally have a room where I control the thermostat. I came home with no energy, made a minimalist dinner for my family, conked out on the couch with my dogs and am desperate for the weekend to get here. i just need an end to the meetings, a real planning period and no more busywork for the district. hi! i’m a 19F 2nd year student. We have dosage tests every semester & i had mine last week. This morning, my lecturer gave us our grades back by calling us up infront of class and giving a one on one talk on where we went wrong. When it was my turn, he said i cheated because the girl next to me had her page “tilted” and he saw me “smile during the test”. Infront of the entire class. “You cheated” “I saw you cheat” “You can’t lie” “You need to be honest”. I said “No, i didn’t cheat”. Everytime i denied, his voice got louder and his statements increasing accusatory. Idk what he saw but i had a calculator, i studied, i get good grades, i participate in class discussions, etc. i even wrote down steps on how i got the answer. Hell, i even wrote down “divided by 1000” when CONVERTING! He said he spoke to the girl next to me and that she told him that “yes I showed her the answers”. but when I asked her, she said she didn’t because she just writes with her paper tilted and also denied the acc

My embarrassment stems from many of my colleagues within critical care. And let me preface this by saying I'm not talking about new grads, or even nurses new to ICU. I'm talking about nurses with 2+ years of experience within their respective ICU. I've worked a number of different hospitals (and different ICUs within each hospital) on both the east and west coasts and I've noticed a decline in the clinical acumen and an increase in laziness of nurses in nearly all of the ICUs I've worked. Currently, I work on the west coast with a union and strict legally mandated ICU ratios. In fact, many of these nurses are singled nearly every shift. I'm talking about not changing dressings, skipping the CHG bath because it's "too much work", not turning patients, and even scanning meds but not giving them just to name a few. So my job has to meet a certain number of patient groups daily but since are staffed to the bare bone they obviously don't get done. I am being told to chart them even if we don't do them. I have asked if there is a way to chart why it wasn't done but apparently that isn't an option. Instead I am told to just chart the groups as if they are done because we are not meeting the quota. These groups have literally not been done is years...no one has time to do them. I don't really trust our risk management because there has been backfire from reporting something like this before. I feel like this is some sort of insurance fraud and can potentially put my license at risk. It is also putting my job at risk for not complying. I moved to a new city around the same time my leave ended, so I never went back to work at my previous job. Then I took a few extra months to settle in and stay home with my baby. I just accepted a job on a medsurg unit in a level 1 trauma hospital, and I’m terrified. It’ll have been 8 months since I left my last job to have my baby. The long hours, the inconsistent sleep, mom-brain, a long commute, pumping, new place and coworkers, plus the extended time off. I feel like I need to study before I go back, but I honestly don’t know if I have the time. Moms who’ve gone through something similar, please give me any advice you have! The unit I’ll be working on is known as having a good culture and teamwork. I’m scared I’ve forgotten things, that I’ll be too exhausted to do a good job, and my new coworkers will question how I got hired in the first place. Why does it feel like, similar to video game companies ,the future of edtech is not in huge companies but small boutique firms with extremely specialized capabilities? I feel like we are going to see a balkanization of edtech firms which will coalesce into a sort of union of firms. Eventually we will have companies again. I think the best thing that edtech firms can do is teach teachers how to make products using ai for their classrooms. My (HUGE) district is hosting a convocation. Basically a massive pep rally. My school got invited and only a select few teachers can go due to capacity limitations. Unfortunately I’m going. Apparently about 5,000 people will be at this event. I have been anxious about this all week. I don’t even go to concerts or malls. These feelings are partially from not being able to tolerate the noise of large crowds but also thinking about how unsafe l feel, my inability to escape if needed, etc. These large ass crowds make me think “perfect opportunity for a mass sh**ting”. How can I ever enjoy myself with these thoughts? It’s pretty much frowned upon to request off on professional development days, which this is, so that’s not an option. I work as a teacher since 2025. I teach languages. Joined this school in July, had my gut feeling that this is weird right from the start. Too many roles for one teacher from random duties to bus duties and so on. The principal on the other hand walked around pretending to be a swagger, while in reality intimidated the teachers.
