Hello! I am looking for some advice/insight for someone like me who is looking to take a non-traditional pathway to becoming an RN. I graduated from undergrad in December of 2025 with my B.S in Kinesiology with hopes of applying to PT school, and through my time away from school I have decided to pivot towards nursing as I believe it would suit me better in the long run. I have a deep passion for healthcare and helping others, but not necessarily for Physical Therapy which led to me making the decision to pivot. With that being said, I am struggling to navigate the best possible route for me to take as of right now. I have been considering an ABSN program which starts in the summer, and currently have 3 prerequisites I would need to complete before entering the program (Human Development, Nutrition, and Microbiology). The school has 3 high schools, one continuation school, 3 middle schools and a some elementary schools. Four hundred substitute teachers on the sub list. The lady said "we just hired more." My first thought is: There are a lot of people with university degrees making less than 35k a year here. My second thought is: Subbing jobs already go in nanoseconds, what was the point of hiring even more? Oddly enough I subbed at a neighboring district in 2019. During the summer, I was so invested, loving, and had so much energy to talk to my family, friends, and significant other, but literally it has all been zapped in a matter of two days. My school is extremely understaffed, so we're all wearing multiple hats. I'm just doing this until I graduate from grad school (two years). I have an exam in 2 days. I have been studying for it in small increments the last few days, and I meant to study for it A LOT today and tomorrow. Any ICU nurses have bad staffing on their unit? We have been so short staffed, we get tripled often. I’m so anxious coming to work and so stressed there. I’m truly miserable. I want to leave but feel bad making them even more short, but also they aren’t doing anything to fix the issue. DON blames the “sick calls”. But that’s not an excuse. We need staff to be able to cover sick calls. Also, this is a city hospital for more context. Looking for advice on what to do in regard to resigning. The school year hasn't even started yet, and I hate my student desks. I was fully expecting normal square desks that I could line up in rows in classic cathedral seating, which I've been told over and over is the best and easiest way for a first year teacher to deal with classroom management. Lo and behold, I go into my room for the first time ever this week and I see my worst nightmare waiting for me. I am a 7th grade English teacher, WHAT DO I NEED TRIANGLE-SHAPED WHITE BOARD DESKS FOR!? I'm kind of scared to ask admin if I can have different desks/if different desks are available because my principal kept talking about the desks. She is clearly very excited about them, so I'm worried that asking will reflect badly on me somehow. I legitimately cannot think of a single good usage for a whiteboard desk in an ELA classroom that isn't a once in an entire year usage!! For math, I can understand them, but for English? These just seem like the biggest inconvenience! I could deal with them

I’ve been working as an inpatient RN for 25 years and I’m considering switching to an outpatient role working four 10-hour shifts a week. I’ve always worked three 12s, and that schedule has worked well for me. Now that my kids are a little older, four days a week feels more doable. The new position would also be less physically and emotionally demanding than my current inpatient role, and I’d be getting home around 2 hours earlier on workdays. There is also the possibility of one remote day a week depending on work load. I would also have a set schedule and there is no weekend or holiday requirement. My biggest hesitation is giving up that extra day off every week. For those of you who went from 3x12s to 4x10s, did getting home earlier and/or having a less demanding job make up for having to go to work an extra day? I have the opportunity to apply to a accelerated bsn program in january, but its highly competitive. its my first pick if i get in, however, I am elligible to apply to an ADN program and LVN program in my state but its very far away. Hi everyone. I’m a brand-new RN and I’m dealing with my first serious critical incident. A patient in my workplace died unexpectedly during/around my shift, and I’m having a really hard time processing it. We are a non medical offsite inpatient detox withdrawal management The patient had returned from the hospital shortly before my shift ended close to shift change. I spoke with him and he was able to communicate with me. I believed he was stable at the time. I told the incoming nurse about him being stable after coming back from the hospital 20 minutes later after I left. They found him dead in the washroom. He takes no medications, No meds were given to him at all. So far we believe it’s an overdose. Since he uses opioids and has a hx of overdose They also found a pipe in his room. so far the police are involved. His parents are very unhappy. I'm not actually a CS student. I switch from CS to EE because of the AI hype a couple of years ago. Jensen Huang scared me away from that major. The layoffs and reddit posts talking about having to do 5000 apps didn't help either. I enjoy my engineering classes and learning more about technology but I find myself gravitating towards web development projects rather than microcontroller projects. And most of my projects revolve around educational tools. I'm a part time student and full time pharmacy technician and most of my projects revolve around teaching different aspects of my job. So I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to specialize in this field? Is it safe from AI? Does it pay well? Edit: thanks for the responses. Their concerns have become more urgent with the rapid advance of artificial intelligence—seemingly now present in nearly all education software, as well as some hardware. Clearly some edtech offers benefits that analog simply can't- e.g., real-time feedback and lesson customization. At the same time, parents are concerned about gamification of learning apps, suggesting that this feature may short-circuit intrinsic motivation to learn. I’m 19 and currently doing nursing prerequisites. I’ve always been interested in medicine and have thought about becoming a physician, but I’m starting to think more realistically about what path makes sense for me. I come from a single-parent household, so the idea of being financially stuck for years while pursuing medical school is something I think about a lot. Nursing is appealing because it gives me a way to build stability sooner while still working in healthcare and helping people. I’ve considered doing RN → MD someday, but part of me wonders if that’s just making the journey longer when I could either commit to medicine now or fully embrace nursing. And I graduated in 2007. Halfway through my schooling I wanted to quit. I hated my clinicals and my back was in so much pain! But my mother said just finish and that way you'll have your RN license and you can figure out what to do next. Problem was my back pain was so bad at age 37 that I could not and really didn't want to do bedside nursing. So I stayed in my safe job that didn't hurt my back but I still kept renewing my nursing license. I thought to myself what if I might need it down the road? Now I'm in another state and it's a pain in the butt just to get my license transferred to the state. Plus I need to renew my license by November 1. I'm in a private BSN program. Probably my fault but I had gone to a different private LVN program and found it to be fine. Now I'm in a more well-known private program and it is RAMPANT with AI. The assignment prompts and teacher responses/email/announcements are all blatantly AI. The slides for my online lectures are made by AI. I asked a teacher for suggestions on how to study for the midterm because we didn't have a study guide and she suggested using chatgpt to give me questions with the rationale afterwards, stating it's mostly reliable. Our ATI program even incorporates an AI tool called Claire AI. The students are obviously utilizing AI. I remember how people wrote for discussions and people did not write this well or the same in previous years. I always flush with 10cc NS, wait a little, then draw back a 10cc waste. this way i save 5 seconds not disconnecting and save my hospital $.05 for tube (/s) my values have never been messed up, and when i explained this, the trainer just could not articulate the difference of wasting 10cc in the same flush vs in a new tube (feel free to explain in replies if you have the energy lol) also the mindset difference of

I am currently in my 3rd year in college in a bachelor's of science. I was going for a PA, but decided that that was too difficult for me. Nursing was my second option. My HS and college didn't really have a nursing major/ degree. You had to take all the pre reqs in order to get into a nursing program in my college. And (at least what my advisor told me) you cant take pre reqs without following a major. So, yeah, im in my 3rd year of my bachelor's of science. Nursing school is another 2-3 years. Did I just waste 3 years of my life and $30k in tuition for choosing a college that doesn't have a nursing major/degree? Ran my tiny weekend essay workshop today. I swear a couple adult drafts in a row had the exact same chatbot-polished sentence: “my journey taught me resilience.” Different backgrounds, distinct pieces, matching boring robot frosting. It helped me see this is the problem I’m fighting with my students too. They assume revision equals “make it sound brainier” instead of “pin down the actual point.” So we get paragraphs that are grammatically clean and totally empty. I finally turned in the very last term for the credential part of my masters I’m for my program. I started student teaching in January this year and finally finished all my observation, projects, assignments, and meetings that was required. I’m in California so needed 250 preK hours and 150 infant toddler hours. So done with student teaching and now I can get paid with a real job! I teach Kindergarten and I’m working at a school that only offers them 10 MINUTES for recess this year. This is literally absurd for me and it is also stressing me out because Kinder behavior can be tough, and recess is literally proven to HELP with behavior. They need to be up and moving.
