I’m 38 and we decided we want to have a child. Which is worse in your opinion: pregnancy during last year of BSN vs. pregnancy in first year of new job? I anticipate my pregnancy will be rough because I’ll also be withdrawing from my regular medications that are contraindicated in conception/pregnancy. We’ve reached that time of year again! It’s almost time to get our rosters, where 15/30 students have 504s and IEPs, and nearly every accommodation has been selected for them. All 15 need to be near instruction, have frequent check ins, extended time, reduced workload to show mastery, the ability to leave the room upon request, and separate testing with a teacher or supervisor who doesn’t exist. You begin to realize quickly that it’s basically impossible to enforce consistent rules and procedures since a majority of students are an exception to whatever rules you’re trying to institute. We desperately need SPED reform. I dare any principal, case manager, counselor, or school executive to say that the current setup is realistic or doable. At our school, 504 accommodations are rarely even based on substantive data! I just started a new job in an outpatient clinic setting as a Clinic Nurse, and my badge says that but it’s tiny print. All staff have identical, bland ID badges whether they be an MA, phlebotomist, receptionist, manager, etc. I’ve noticed some MAs have their own badge buddies that say “Medical Assistant,” or MA, and some RNs have custom badge buddies saying RN or Registered Nurse. I’m only one year into nursing so I still am excited by the RN badge, so I feel a little egotistical by getting myself a plain RN badge buddy for my badge. I teach summer school and the students get lunch before they're sent home at noon. We were in the cafeteria and another teacher ran to me asking for help. One of her students (who was my student this past year) was kneeling on the floor. She was choking on a corn dog. I was able to perform the Heimlich Maneuver on her and she is ok. I’m trying to max out my salary in a Chicago suburban district. I need the classes to be graduate-level, online and our contract recently changed to where the classes “must be toward some sort of certificate or degree”. I don’t actually have to earn the certificate, but I need proof that the class actually goes toward some kind of certificate if that makes sense. Hi, I recently just graduated with my bachelors of science in psychology. I want to apply to ABSN programs but I don’t have any relevant nursing experience. I wanted to ask if I should be working to become a CNA? Should I do volunteer work at a hospital or inpatient facility? (My preferred option) or is there any other recommendations? My family tells me that working as a CNA won’t help me build experience.. I wanted to get opinions about how I should gain some relevant experience. I’m a 2nd grade teacher and part of our “policies and procedures” committee for my building. We have a new principal this year, and we will be having interventionists working in the hallway/pod space with students. This will be “their” space and they will not have offices. They will be out there all day. Because of this, he doesn’t want us to do whole class restroom breaks. In the past, we’ve lined kids up and supervised them in the hall while they take turns going. (The expectation has always been silence, and sometimes we have them bring books or work as well, but this is a no go for him). We do one break in the morning and one in the afternoon for each class, and we’ve found that this cuts down on kids asking to go between breaks. I don’t think it will be successful to do no breaks and only send kids asking needed from class. Any ideas on what to do? We’re supposed to come up with a plan for the building. Been a nurse for 10 years, mostly ICU with some neurovascular ICU and PCU. Did the travel thing, got my CCRN, applying to schools now etc. I have never had a complaint besides attendance. I even did some middle management. It was horrible and not for me. Recently I stopped traveling and got a job 5 mins from my home to prepare to start my masters. I wanted a job that would be less stressful than a level 1-2 trauma center. I started a local hospital ICU 2 months ago. It’s been… a work in progress. It’s a small unit. We don’t keep a lot of critical things but they are trying to grow up to be a “real ICU”. We don’t have critical care docs at night though, so anything super critical still gets sent out. We do have a fully functional cath lab, but anything too crazy gets shipped over a hour away. Last week, we had a patient with an IABP that needed transport to an open heart center over a hour a way. Hey everyone, I could really use some advice or just some peace of mind from other teachers who have navigated alternative certification nightmares. I’m on an Alternative Route to Licensure (ARL) pathway for state of Nevada. Right before the school year starts, my principal emailed to tell me I'm being reassigned from my 5th-grade classroom to a small-group interventionist role for grades 4 and 5. From my understanding (and my program's rules), an intervention or support role doesn't meet the state's mandatory "classroom of record" requirement for my residency, which directly puts my conditional license in jeopardy. I’ve already sent a paper trail to district HR and my ARL program to flag the compliance issue, but I'm freaking out that the district won't do anything or that I'll be stuck in a non-compliant position. Long story short I started off as new grad in ICU but nights weren't working for my health and the people there were toxic, now I'm in a smaller hospital in med surg daytime. People are less toxic and easier less sick patients of course, but 5 patients versus 1 or 2.....you already know the deal. Hello, I am torn because I have wanted to be a nurse for a long time and chose to go to community college. I was able to finish most of my community colleges pre requisites in high school except they split Anatomy and Physiology and I was unable to take those in high school. This past Spring semester I withdrew Physiology because I was going to get a D. I decided to retake the class this Summer and recently started a job thats overnights in a hospital as a tech. This job made school so much harder than before and my summer program was 2x as fast as regular spring semester. However the issue lies in the fact that you only get 2 tries for Anatomy or Physiology and have to get a C if you want to even be able to apply. I’ve considered switching degrees all together but have absolutely no idea what to do. I do have a passion for medicine but I struggle with school so much and recently found out I have ADHD. Any ideas as to how i can fix this dilemma and still become a nurse within 4 years?

I am a high school ASL teacher. This upcoming year, I’m likely going to have a high school student in our teaching program where they learn how to be a teacher by shadowing a mentor within a classroom of their choice, kinda like an internship. Since May, I’ve been on 7 different interviews, dealing with the usual radio silence, rejections, and endless waiting. About a month ago, I interviewed for a position I really wanted. Title. I’ve been a nurse for almost three years, and I used to be a HUGE hypochondriac. I think it was largely due to my mother being a hypochondriac and raising me as so, but I would go to PCP/urgent care/ER for any little thing that was out of the ordinary for me. But understanding the “why” behind certain symptoms I have has helped relieved my anxiety tenfold. Epigastric pain after a night of drinking? Probably acid reflux, and probably not stomach cancer or pancreatitis. Headache? Take some tylenol, it’s probably from dehydration and not brain cancer. I’m wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience. And no hate to people with hypochondriasis or health anxiety, I totally understand. Hello! I have been teaching in a pretty old school building for the past 2 years. Since starting at this school I have been sick a lot. At first I thought maybe it was because I moved from states and was dealing with different allergens but I really think a lot of it has to do with the school building itself. Other teachers also notice more sickness while in the building and I have brought up possibly finding air purifiers for our rooms. Does anyone else teach in an older building and have an air purifier that has helped? I'm new to teaching and just started at a summer school program a couple of weeks ago. So far, it's been tough, but generally rewarding. However, I had a parent interaction during pick-up today which really upset me. For context, I have worked in customer service since high school and have never taken any interaction personally, nor have I been insulted to this extent. The parent came in while I was speaking to another group of students in the back of the room and she immediately asked why I didn't bother to say hello to her (in an extremely snarky tone). I was actually confused by this because I wasn't anywhere near her or her student when she came in.
