My principal uses AI for EVERYTHING (she writes the text, but the visual portion is all AI). TLDR: How are students performing academically in Republican states? I’m a high school teacher in a Democratic state. Over the past few years, student performance has declined significantly. Some factors contributing to this issue include school districts lowering expectations, administrators passing students despite low skill levels, excessive phone use, social media distractions, etc. However, I personally think that declining student performance is a nationwide problem, not just one affecting Democratic states. I have some relatives who are well educated but are also radical Republicans. They tend to blame everything on the Democratic system. They’ll say things like, “Democratic states only focus on teaching kids woke nonsense like respecting gay or Black people. I work 2 weeks of days 2 weeks of nights (boooo I know, don’t have to tell me it SUCKS.) I am very consistent on working out on my days but nights affects my sleep so much that I fall off when I work nights. When should I workout? Before a couple in a row I will work out BEFORE I go in at 7. But in between shifts I am really tired. Suggestions? It’s a hard battle of prioritizing sleep/rest vs. fitness. I’m exhausted after a 12hr night but at the same time when I wake up I find it hard to feel energetic enough to gym. I am so groggy. But I always still do yoga and some sort of cardio to get movement in. Has anyone else had this issue in California? My DON said she’s the only one who can approve overtime in emergent situations. Well, I had a fall on my hall during med pass and I also assisted another nurse with a fall. My pt was on blood thinners and I was doing Q15 neuro checks after so it put me behind a lot. She texted me on my day off saying I should have called her after I called the doctor and next of kin to get the overtime approved. Yet right after, She said my reasons for staying late were unjustifiable. Now I am anxious on my days off because she wants me to have a meeting with her when I get back. Found out today that I'm being moved to the other side of the school and leaving the best room I've ever had. I've been in this room for four years, my longest tenured classroom ever with TWO built in cabinets and an AC stuck on 69 degrees for those four years. That being said, I am grateful that I'm still employed, and still have two more weeks off before I have to go back and move. More like venting than ranting. I work inpatient acute rehab. We had a patient that had a thoracic laminectomy and fusions, with a 10" incision and staples along his spine. He developed an infection (despite thoroughly documented wound care by staff) and the start of a dehiscence in the more inflamed areas over the course of about a week. It fell on me to take pictures, contact the neurosurgeon, and arrange for this patient to be seen in the town where the surgery was performed (about 1.5 hrs away). The patient was very anxious and catastrophizing, so constantly ringing his bell to ask "what ifs" and repeat the litany of potential complications that the neurosurgeon had recited to him. Is it infected, are my screws popping out (lol?). I had to repeatedly say that it wasn't our place to diagnose anything related to the surgery, that we weren't a neurosurgery unit, that yes it could be infected but it could also be fine, we can't know anything until the neurosurgeon looks at it, etc. The

Hey y’all! To start, I’ve been a nurse for 7 years. During the past 7 years, I’ve had 2 jobs in the ICU: PICU and CVICU. Sadly, I ended up leaving both of those jobs due to nasty coworkers who were bullies and toxicity. For more context, I was not the only RN who left for those reasons while I was working there. I recently accepted a job in a general ICU. I’m really excited, but I’m also a little apprehensive about going back into a role that may be made more stressful by coworkers. It’s NOT about having a thick skin or not. It’s about not wanting to be in an environment where the people I work with go out of their way to make mine and other nurses’ jobs more difficult. I’ll be on night shifts at this job. I worked days in the other positions. I guess I’m just worried of a repeat. I really want to be successful. Hi everyone, As many of you know other countries around the world practice year round schooling. A few years ago at a PD the Facilitator asked the staff how they felt about it and over 80% of the teachers agreed that there should be year round schooling. I first learned about year round schooling from Adam Ruins Everything and it opened my eyes to some of the things I never noticed. Such as students not able to receive regular meals, not all parents able to afford expensive summer camps, and just how bad the summer slide is. I have been giving it a lot of thought and I figured out that since a calendar year can be divided four ways into 13 weeks. Wouldn't it make sense to have 11 week marking periods followed by 2 week breaks but still have all the regular holidays? How do you all feel about year round schooling? I am a brand new teacher, graduated from college 3 years ago with my BA in Elementary/Special Education. I’m licensed K-6. I have been a stay at home mama to my two littles since being in college. I did a long term 2nd grade 6 month sub job where I student taught. I also taught Prek-8 PE/health part time for a catholic school. I have a 5yo & a 15mo. I’m a newly single mama, (husband is a severe alcoholic, doesn’t want to stop despite 6 rehab stays). I need a full time job with benefits. I have had about 15 interviews, every single one they go with the other candidate. Today, I had an 5th grade panel interview at a school I subbed at this last school year & LOVED. It went so good. I thought I had it. We were all laughing & I felt so at ease. The other principal for the other elementary sat in too. She has a part time special ed teacher position at her school. They called me about 10 minutes after I got home from the interview and said that they went with someone else who worked for them

So I’m about two years, I will be starting student teaching, well less than two years. I’m an online university student studying elementary and special education and getting my Bachelor’s degree. Anyways in February 2028 I will be doing student teaching in a general classroom. I will be doing that from February to April 2028. I have a class after than. Then in the fall of 2028 I will be doing student teaching in special education from August to October 2028. I know for the General Ed class I would have to leave the autism school to do the do the gen education student teaching. I don’t know if they will let me go back to the house in school to do sped ed student teaching. I know student teaching is unpaid so I’m just curious if y’all had to do a side job for income. My district starts mid-August. I'm still at that point where I am positively dreading the idea of going back to work. My last year wasn't bad, but just the idea of the constant drain, the constant exhaustion, and most of all, the constant stimulation - well, I feel anxious just thinking about it. I'm not usually excited to go back to work at this point in the summer, but normally I wouldn't be feeling overwhelmed by the thought of it. And now I am anxious about the fact that I am already overwhelmed. I have been thinking about leaving teaching for a few years, but there isn't anything I can really pivot into as the breadwinner of the family. Some context: I'm an RN in Florida. Early last year I forgot to scan a narcotic and was drug tested at work. It was positive for cannabis. In order to keep my job and avoid possible discipline from the BON, I self enrolled in a state drug monitoring program for nurses (IPN). I got a two year contract and I have about 8 months left. I get routinely tested for drugs and alcohol and need quarterly reports submitted by my supervisor. Current situation: Last weekend I had another discrepancy. A patient was getting intubated and I was asked to pull meds. I pulled more narcotic than what was ordered. In the chaos, I forgot to return the extra amount, creating a discrepancy in the pyxis count. It was only the following day that I realized what I had done, and I preemptively reached out to my nurse manager to explain the situation since I knew she would be getting a report from pharmacy at some point anyway. My school district went virtual for summer school due to the amount of parents complaining they had no way of getting their kids to in-person summer school. We also provide free laptops and wifi to kids who are enrolled upon request. Today, halfway through summer school, a student messaged me on Google Meet and asked how to open his assignment on the online classroom. I was confused because he’s already done this 10 times so I responded “the same way you always do!” His mom takes a picture of the message and emails me, attaching admin, basically saying she’s tricked me into admitting he opens his assignments. …I never said he didn’t? The grade notification emails I sent her said he doesn’t complete his assignments and often submits them entirely blank. She doubles down and says if he’s coming to class and opening the assignment he should be passing regardless of whether or not he’s completing them. I plan on buying myself a small fridge for my classroom (to store my lunches and waters), and it got me thinking about hungry students. In the past, I brought apples, peanut butter crackers, etc, for hungry students, but peanut butter is pretty much a no-go these days, so I could use some advice on what foods I might get for my students, some of whom lack food security and others of whom are just plain hungry. I do not want kids because of this, although there are many other reasons as well. I’ve briefly worked in L&D, and have experiences in both mother baby & NICU. I get that it’s not common and we always see the worst of it all, but how could u see a traumatic birth and think yea i wanna do that?? Like im talking placental abruption, full DIC, pulmonary embolism, 3-4 degree tear, placental retention, PPH, and for babies shoulder dystocia, HIE, extreme premature birth, NEC, CP.. I guess for peds nurses you see the aftermath of it and how it leaves such pain and suffering to the baby - child where they’re permanently disabled. Does any of it affect how you see pregnancy and childbirth or having kids at all? I have a little less than 3 weeks left before I go back to start the new school year. I’ve spent most of my summer basically just relaxing. I’ve read, gone to the pool, drawn in my art journal, watched tv, and allowed myself to just be a little lazy while still fulfilling all of my adult responsibilities. I definitely needed that rest. But now that summer is ending soon, I’m stressed! I don’t want to waste a moment of this precious free time just relaxing anymore. I had wanted to go on a couple different day trips: theme park, aquarium, zoo, art museum, etc. all 1.5-2.5 hrs away. I am single and none of my friends are teachers like me (being a teacher at 23 is quite the interesting experience) and have the time to go do stuff all the time, so I’m thinking about just doing it alone. I was notified that my position was being eliminated last spring. I teach I specialized high school elective and only have the very specific endorsement/license that goes along with it. I anticipated being laid off over the summer given my seniority and the few positions that remain in my district. Some background first: I taught eighth grade at a very strange charter school with awful academics. A lot of the kids barely turned anything in, couldn’t write a sentence with punctuation, and had vocabularies so limited they sometimes couldn’t even carry on a normal conversation with each other. They just didn’t know enough words to explain what they meant. But what really shocked me was the parents. At conferences, I showed them the little work their kids had turned in. I figured we’d talk about tutoring, extra help through the school, literally anything. Hi everyone, I could really use some advice. I recently signed a contract for a lead teacher position at a daycare , but honestly it has not been what I expected at all. I thought I would be working in a preschool classroom, but I’m actually with 2-year-olds, the place is pretty disorganized, and my “training” has basically just been working as a regular daycare worker. I’ve only been there for about 2 weeks , but I already know it’s not a good fit. The issue is my contract includes: - a 120-day notice requirement - a non-compete clause At the time, I thought this would be a long-term position, so I signed it. BUT… I just got offered a 2nd grade teaching position at a private school , which is exactly what I went to school for and what I actually want to do long-term.
