[2/5] Distracted from core mission

The learning content is good but they changed it so you have to spend as much time tapping on chests repeatedly as you do learning. The gamification has gone too far and makes it very frustrating if you actually want to use this app to learn.

[1/5] Useful for Spanish but some example sentences not appropriate

I have been using Duolingo to learn Spanish and generally find it helpful for practicing vocabulary and basic phrases. However, I was disappointed by some of the example sentences in the family section. The content felt inappropriate for a beginner lesson and not what I expected when learning basic family vocabulary. I would prefer more straightforward and traditional examples at the early levels. I think the app is useful overall, but I hope future updates will keep beginner lessons more focused on simple, clear language that matches the topic being taught.

[1/5] Not great anymore

I haven’t used the app in a very long time, but I hate that energy was added because now I can only get through ONE lesson for free and then I have to wait until the next day, whereas before, I could get through several lessons as long as I had enough hearts.

It’s fun and easy to follow, but it doesn’t feel encouraging enough. I could leave it for a day, and forget it exist for a year. It may just be me. But also every time you complete something it makes an annoying ding sound. And there’s no way to turn it off. But otherwise it’s nice for learning different languages.

[2/5] Used to be pretty good - AI is the actual worst.

Duolingo is not great anymore. I originally downloaded it because you could hear native speakers in whatever language you were studying, which was incredibly helpful. Now it’s all AI garbage that you can get anywhere for free. It’s glitchy, and annoying, and gets things wrong a lot- because AI doesn’t actually know anything. I did a bunch of lessons yesterday that disappeared today & it used a streak freeze for no reason. The Flashcard Frenzy only accepts one answer (so if you use the feminine “belle” when it asks for “beautiful” but they wanted the masculine “beau”, you’re wrong, except you’d have no way of knowing that). I could go on, but honestly, the point is: Duolingo won’t help you navigate in a foreign language. My speaking/listening skills are not any better than when I started. Get Pimsleur instead if you want to have functional language skills.

[4/5] Duolingo: language lessons

I think Duolingo would be better You could change the language to be the opposite like if you’re learning English and speak Spanish. You can switch it so it would be like you speak English, and you’re learning Spanish, so in case you didn’t know some words, you can figure out and then continuing learning English. And there are some mistakes en Duolingo, like sometimes it has yo which means I, but when you translate it in English, there’s not supposed to be an l aka yo

[5/5] The best app for kids

Learn how to speak other languages compare for trips and it makes me feel like I can move anywhere and speak any language they speak if I don’t know the language I’m going to Duolingo. It’s not that hard. step-by-step. You can get it for free or you can get out knowing on Max or Duolingo Duolingo Max you can FaceTime the cartoons or characters that that’s helping you try Duolingo. It’s always gonna be there if you delete it you’re gonna download it again. And to keep you active. You have a streak level if you skip a day or a few days then your streak freezes if it frozen in for too long then you have to start over your whole streak that’s why you want to stay on Duolingo, download Duolingo.

[4/5] It’s ok

I think I’m doing rather well, but I feel like I don’t get a chance to speak with people. I heard someone behind me at an ice cream shop speaking French and they were speaking so fast. I had no idea what they were saying. Could not make out a single word and I have been doing this Since November and here it is June. One of the frustrating things on this app is when you try to speak the words, no matter how many times you say it right it will tell you it’s wrong and take the points away from you. I have lost Out on many perfect scores because of this. I knew the word or if I knew the word and misspelled it… It’s just frustrating.

[3/5] Needs more time teaching grammar rules

I enjoy the speed at which you can learn in Duolingo starting from an absolute beginner level. What I’ve been saying during these last 5 years that I’ve been actively using the app, is that it needs to include more lessons explaining why grammar rules are implemented. For example, where German verbs fall, how they are conjugated, and why. I know you can select “explain my answer” now, but it needs to be integrated with lessons.

Over a year in! Not a day missed! Making serious progress and continuously on the top of the Diamond league. Then came the app update. I didn’t know anything of the new vocabulary or grammar. [1/5] Graphics Concern

There are so many good things about Duolingo (language lessons, math, chess). The graphics of Oscar are suggestive in unnecessary ways. Nobody needs to see him wearing a towel. Recently, they portrayed Oscar bare-chested with a “continue” button to push in his lower abdomen. That’s sick or just weird. There is another graphic of Oscar riding a dolphin and holding a glass of wine. How does that teach people chess? If you are looking for a site for your children, please be cautious of these questionable graphics. If they would clean up these graphic concerns, I would give a much higher rating.

[1/5] Get the hearts back

The new energy system is nuts. You should be rewarded for correct answers, instead you are loosing energy with each answer. And 25 isn’t even enough for two lectures in a row 🤯 How are you supposed to learn a new language if you can’t even repeat one lecture

[2/5] no opportunities to learn

i used to like it until they changed it from lives, to energy. i barely get to learn anything at all this way. only one lesson per sitting? no one will be able to learn a language from this app if the energy system continues. and their premium version is so expensive, students like me can no way afford it.

[1/5] Price gouging?

I’ve been a long time Duolingo user and it’s really disappointing that you can’t do more than one lesson a day without buying more energy. Unless you want to spend $80 a year for lessons, you’re better off using Google Translate to learn a language because it’s actually free and each lesson is a regurgitation of 4 different words too so you won’t be learning much unless you upgrade to super. And they offer it to you through an unskippable ad after every single lesson. Truly a waste of time.
